ASH - Wooden Dummy - Duncan Leung Specifications (No Stand) (aka Muk Yan Jong, or Mook Yan Jong)

This jong is made to the specifications of the Duncan Leung lineage (one of Ip Man's private disciples). It is hand made in the USA.

This is one of the best wooden dummies on the market today. It is hand made in the USA by our hand-chosen carpenter. This is not a cheap Chinese/Vietnamese factory made dummy. Each part of the Wooden Dummy is carefully constructed using a combination of traditional skills combined with the latest technology.

You will receive the body, arms, and leg.
(This dummy does not ship with a stand).

The Body
The body is manufactured from the north American Hardwood, Ash, and has been professionally kiln dried. Ash is a N. American hardwood, commonly known as the wood baseball bats are made from. Don't be fooled by other dummy makers offering dummies at this price which use Pine or other cheap woods. This is 100% quality Ash.

Most dummy manufacturers use cheap woods in the core to reduce their cost. We have decided to use Ash for the core instead of pine because while pine is a little cheaper, it often has more twisting in the wood and is much lighter and softer. The ash is harder, heavier and more stable.

All of the wood we use is carefully selected by hand from sustainable sources to ensure that every Wooden Dummy we produce meets the highest standards that you would expect from such a beautiful Jong. After drying, each piece is laminated together using an incredibly strong glue for maximum strength. The slat that goes through the top of the dummy is situated so that it does not interfere with you reaching behind to pull on the dummy during the first set. The trunk weights approx 80-85 lbs.

The Arms
The arms in these specifications have a little more play than what is typical in other lineages. Each arm is made from solid hardwood Ash (the same thing baseball bats are made from) and shaped by hand to ensure the correct taper for the specs. The two upper arms are offset in the traditional way, which allows the tips to be made more parallel - or the angles can be altered to create a tight or wide centerline to work through. The middle arm is centered, and each arm is smoothly tapered in the traditional way.

The pins for the arms and leg are made for airplane grade aluminum.

The Leg
One will note the unique shape of the leg which includes a unique curve. A unique design from this lineage's specs. The leg is well made and reinforced at the joint. The knee is smooth, not a sharp angle like most knees seen today. When kicking at the knee or above there should never be any case where the leg breaks.

The Finish
Every part of the Wooden Dummy is sanded, stained, and then sealed with a high grade clear lacquer to ensure maximum durability. Every dummy is produced to a standard that is equal to a quality piece of furniture and looks just as good in the house as it does in the gym.

Ok, but two major issues April 13, 2012
Reviewer: JC from Florida
Can't speak for any other wooden man but the one I bought; however this one came with two flaws:
1) One of the upper arms is not interchangeable. It will only fit in the lower right hole.
2) The arm, mentioned above, once it is inserted, does not have the proper amount of 'play' in it, like the other upper arm does. This is not a good thing! The vendor EWC uses should check for this, and/or institute some better quality control before shipping. Now I'm stuck with one bad arm.

I do not know if the carpenter EWC uses would ship me another one to try out(?). If it fits better, and works in both configurations...I will ship him back the incorrectly sized arm.
If it wasn't for the arm issue, my rating would have been higher.

[Admin: We will work to get you the correctly sized arms.  Please email us a picture to send to the carpenter, so he can make the right one for you.  It sounds like the shaft is just too big.  Also, please email us for issues.  We do not monitor customer reviews].
