The text in Chinese was a rough draft written by the late Grandmaster Ip Man and was supposed to be the preface for the purpose of organizing the "Ving Tsun Tong Fellowship" once upon a time. However, the Ving Tsun Tong Fellowship had never been come in existence, Instead, the "Hong Kong Ving Tsun Athletic Association" was finally established on 24, August, 1967.

This is a rough translation of what the scroll says:

"The founder of the Ving Tsun Kungfu System, Miss Yim Ving Tsun was a native of Canton, China, As a young girl, she was intelligent and athletic, upstanding and manly. She was betrothed to Leung Bok Chau, a salt merchant of Fukien, Soon after that, her mother died. Her father, Yim Yee, was wrongfully accused of a crime, and nearly went to jail. So the family moved far away, and finally settled down at the foot of Tai Leung Mountain at the Yunnan-Szechuan border, There, they earned a living by selling beancurd. All this happened during the reign of Emperor K'anghsi (1662-1722).

At the time, kungfu was becoming very strong in Siu Lam Monastery (Shaolin Monastery) of Mt. Sung, Honan, This aroused the fear of the Manchu government, which sent troops to attack the Monastery. They were unsuccessful. A man called Chan Man Wai was the First Placed Graduate of the Civil Service Examination that year. He was seeking favour with the government, and suggested a plan. He plotted with Siu Lam monk Ma Ning Yee and others. They set fire to the Monastery while soldiers attacked it from the outside. Siu Lam was burnt down, and the monks scattered, Buddhist Abbess Ng Mui, Abbot Chin Shin, Abbot Pak Mei, Masdter Fung To Tak and Master Miu Hin escaped and fled their separate ways.

Ng Mui took refuge in White Crane Temple on Mt. Tai Leung (also known as Mt. Chai Har). There she came to know Yim Yee and his daughter Yim Ving Tsun, She bought bean curds at their store. They became friends.

Ving Tsun was a young woman then, and her beauty attracted the attention of a local bully. He tried to force Ving Tsun to marry him. She and her father were very worried. Ng Mui learned of this and took pity on Ving Tsun. She agreed to teach Ving Tsun fighting techniques so that she could protect herself. Then she would be able to solve the problem with the bully, and hence Ving Tsun followed Ng Mui into the mountain to the Monastery and started learning kungfu diligently under Ng Mui, she finally finished her studying, and nominated the bully for a contest and beat up the bully. After then, Ng Mui decided to tour around China, and before she left, she reminded Ving Tsun to keep up the discipline she had been taught, and after her marriage and settled down she should pass down the art to more people with the anticipation to overthrow the Manchu government and restore the Ming dynasty. According to these information gathered we shall believe that VingTsun style is actually originated from Ng Mui.

After her marriage, she has chosen her husband Leung Bok To as the first to inherit the art, then Leung Bok To had taught Leung Lan Kwai, and Leung Lan Kwai had taught Wong Wah Bo, and Wong Wah Bo happened to work on the Red Boat together with Leung Yee Tei, at time when Abbot Chi Sin disguised himself as a cook on the Red Boat and has taught his invincible weapon skill of Luk Dim Boon Kwan (six and a half point pole) to Leung Yee Tei, and since Wong Wah Bo and Leung Yee Tei are very close and both liked kungfu, they started to switch their skills, they blended both persons learnings into one perfected system, and since then, Ving Tsun style also consisted the Luk Dim Boon Kwan for this reason. Afterwards, Leung Yee Tei passed his skill down to a renowned Medical doctor Leung Jan in Foshan, and Leung Jan is very talented in interpreting the essence within Ving Tsun, kung fu practitioners from close and far learned of him and they came for challenges and humble consultations, Leung Jan has been very famous since. (the translator added that the character Leung Yee Tei could have existed, the HK news reporters on Sports pages had exploited back to Foshan in the 1960's, which wasn't easy because back then China is concealed within the bamboo curtain, photos of the alley of Leung Yee Tei's old home were taken and published, this is this far we can trace back). Later on, Leung Jan had taught Chan Wah Shun, and Man (Ip Man is self addressing) with Si-hings Ng Siu Lo, Ng Chun So, Chan Yue Min, Lui Yue Chai had served apprenticeship under Chan Wah Shun for several decades till now, this is a true story of our lineage, when we drink water we have to think of the origin, for the purpose to commemorate our ancestors and to unite our fellowship I wish to find a Ving Tsun Tong Fellowship organization, I wish our brothers and friends will support this idea, the expansion of our style counts on this deed."
