| Buick Yip - Standard Wing Chun Wooden Dummy - Seapost Shipping (3 Month Delivery)
If you care about having the absolute best Wing Chun dummy available on the market today, bar none, then you must have a Buick Yip Wing Chun Wooden Dummy. There is no question about it, for those that care about their Wing Chun and proper training, this is the ONLY dummy to buy. No other even comes close.
Recently the old castle pillars and marble wood used to make these dummies ran out and Buick was going to retire from the dummy business. I convinced him to give it one more go and make about 50 more dummies for you guys before he retired. We tirelessly researched new woods and built several prototype dummies to test out before deciding on the new woods to use (see note on woods below). We believe these new dummies are just as beautiful (if not more so) than the old ones and they will hold up even better.
The measurement of all the dummies are based on Wong Shun Leung's dummy made by Koo Sang. Yip Man gave Koo Sang these measurements, and we guarantee you won't be able to tell the functional difference between your dummy and Wong Shun Leung's! These dummies are made with the most accurate measurements of any dummy on the market today.
The dummy has over dozens of measurements, but the basic measurements are:
-
Diameter - 21 cm
-
Length - 1.4 meters
-
Arm length - 29.5 cm
-
Distance between two top arms (from middle of arms tip) - 21 cm when open, 19 cm when close.
-
From top of dummy to top of 1st opening - 25 cm
-
From top of dummy to top of middle arm opening - 55.5 cm
-
Dimension of arm holes - 4 cm
-
Arms tip - 3.5 cm
-
Arms base - 5.5 cm
-
Top of the dummy leg from end to center of knee is 30 cm.
-
From center of knee to bottom is 42 cm.
-
Cross section of the leg is 7cm X 8 cm (approx.), and part at the knee is slightly bigger.
Average weight of the dry wood dummy trunk is about 70-80 lbs.
All dummies include two1.5 meter horizontal slats for mounting.
All dummy legs are made of marble wood. The wood has a natural twist so the legs are in one piece and can stand kicking in practice without giving up. The dummy arms are 30 cm length, and if you break the arms (or leg) Buick will replace them by postal mail at no extra cost. The Wing Chun characters burned into the top of the trunk are by special request only and are not standard.
A Note About the Woods Used:Buick's dummies became famous, in part, because of the woods originally used for the trunks. Initially the wood came from 300 year old castle pillars (the Dry Wood Dummies). He also made a limited series of Marble Wood dummies, that came from the very rare and very hard twisted trees from the mountains of Japan. As of March 2009 all the sources for these woods have dried up (the marble wood dried up over a year earlier). We still get many requests for dummies from these woods, but it is no longer possible to acquire them. However, Buick is constantly searching out new and unique woods for his dummies, and each dummy you get will be rare and unique. Currently the " standard", or " dry wood" dummies are made from a hard Chinese fir, Chinese elm, or what translates as "fortunate" wood. These woods have been tested in three areas: beauty (do they look great), density (will they hold up to repeated hard use), and dryness (chances of cracking in a different environment). Every wood core we use has passed inspection in these areas. We constantly look for quality new wood sources as the demand is high and the sources are scarce. Avg weight is about 35kg or 80lbs. Special Woods:We also carry a few " special" woods that are usually high density and very heavy (the exception being the black walnut). Woods used for these dummies come at a premium and include black walnut, teak, marble (very, very rarely now), and what translates as "red core". They are usually much harder to dry and take a long time to make because of their density (they weigh up to 50 lbs more than the dry wood dummies). They also are usually 1.5x or 2x more expensive than the dry wood dummies. These dummies are usually by request only and require up front payment, and a wait of usually a month as the dummies are made. Please contact Aaron if you wish to purchase one of these dummies. They normally sell for approx $1999 with shipping via UPS included.
Shipping Information
While most dummies ship within days to two weeks, in times of high
demand it can take up to 4 weeks before your dummy is made and
shipped. You will be updated and notified if we expect it to take
longer than 2 weeks for your dummy to be shipped. Shipping is via sea post (normal postal service) from Buick Yip in Hong Kong. Typical delivery is 2-3 months from date of shipping.
For orders of 5 or more dummies special sea crate shipping can be
arranged if you don't mind importing the dummies and picking them up
from a local warehouse in your area. This can reduce the shipping to
about $100 a dummy after all expenses and taxes are paid. Contact Aaron if interested. Serious inquiries only.
Why Seapost?
Some countries have a higher postal weight limit and can receive the dummies by post. Air post is just as expensive or more expensive than UPS, so sea post is the only cheap method of shipping available. The countries that accept a 30kg weight limit for postal service deliveries are:
Austria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Ryukyu Islands (part of Japan), Jordan, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Nigeria, Philippines, Serbia and Montenegro, Singapore, Switzerland, United Kingdom, & Yemen. If your country is NOT listed about or you do not want to wait 3 months for delivery then click here to order a dummy via UPS. All countries not listed above including Australia and the USA must use UPS shipping. |
