MasterPath Wing Chun Wooden Dummy - Heirloom Series #002 - Teak Wood
(aka Muk Yan Jong, or Mook Yan Jong)
Introducing a new wooden dummies series of high-end, timeless and classically elegant woods and specifications made for the modern wing chun practitioner.
This dummy is offered for $1000 off of the normal price of $3999, with $399 shipping ($3399 total to your door). The stand is also solid teak wood. The discount is offered for the following reasons: The dummy does not have slat holes and will only work on the stand it comes with or a similar stand. The stand it comes with should work fine, but was not made to our specifications and we worry about longevity after years of abuse. Any repairs would have to be local and are not covered by the maker (but should be pretty easy to fix if they do happen). We could charge full price and take care of these issues, but instead decided to sell these dummies at cost and just make the next ones better.
Also, please note that the pictures of the dummy are a poor representation of the quality and beauty of this dummy... and the dummy pictures may not be the one you get, but it will be similar. We have dummies but only two set of pictures from the carpenter's phone. (Again, part of the sales price is we didn't pay for professional photos).
Trunk Wood: Teak Wood (Solid)
Arms Wood: Teak Heartwood aged 25+ years.
Leg Wood: Teak Wood (Solid)
Stand Wood: Teak Wood (Solid)
These dummies use eco-friendly sustainable sources for the wood, and only uses the best quality woods available. MasterPath works with the only FSC certified teak plantation that operates the full chain of custody and is part of the Rain Forest Alliance. This means for every dummy you buy there will have been two to three new Teak trees planted in Costa Rica, protecting the rainforest and creating jobs for the local people.
Finished with Oils:
The dummy is finished in Watco Teak Oil, not a chemical varnish. This is environmentally friendlier and potentially healthier. For the longest life, you will want to re-oil the dummy on occasion. Tung or Teak oils are recommend for this.
Estimated at 9 kg for the arms and leg, plus the trunk at 30-35 kgs = 39-44 kg / 85-97 lbs total. The weight varies based on the density of the wood used: every tree is different. These weights are only a guide and not a guarantee.
Traditional (Left arm is slightly higher than the right).
The measurements of all the dummies are based on Leung Sheung's dummy made with reference to Koo Sang. Yip Man gave Koo Sang these measurements and we guarantee you won't be able to tell the difference between your dummy the original! These dummies are made with the most accurate measurements of any dummy on the market today. In addition, there is one added modification of the arms being scaled to work with a six-foot-tall Wing Chun practitioner. Smaller practitioners will have no issues with the traditional specs, but larger people will enjoy the slightly longer arms (31cm).
The most commonly requested measurements:
Diameter of Trunk - 21 cm (8.27 inches)
Height of Trunk - 1.4 meters (55 inches)
The Distance between two top arms (from the middle of arms tip) - 19.25 closed to 21.25cm when open (7.57-8.3 inches).
The Distance between two top arms and the middle arm - 23 cm (9 inches)
This dummy includes a prototype floor stand which was NOT made to our specifications. (Mainly because it lacks a tray and the dummy post does not go to the ground). We do not know how well the stand will hold up over time if you use the round really hard, but we are told it should be just fine. As mentioned above, we have not seen these dummies or stands personally at this time, but did review the prior work and found it to be very high quality. The dummy does NOT have slat holes for wall mounting, and will only work with this (or similar) floor stands. The large $1000 discount takes these factors into account.
This dummy will be drop-shipped to your door via FedEx or UPS. Shipping includes the cost of the boxing and cost of shipping from the Teak plantation, to our US facility and then on to you via UPS/FedEx. It is quite expensive, we know, but these rates are actually quite discounted.
The dummy is solid wood, which means it has the potential to check in quick humidity changes. Monitoring humidity with a hygrometer is highly recommended. Care is 100% your responsibility. These dummies are properly kiln dried and very stable, but wood will always have the potential to check with humidity swings. Checking in the wood is NOT a warranty issue. Please see the warranty tab for more info. The care is the same as the care for Buick Yip's dummies.
