Orca (Killer Whale) Chopper Butterfly Swords
The Orca Chopper Butterfly Swords (Collector's Series/Special Edition) are bowie-blade style BJD featuring a lenticular/convex grind on the outside and a hollow/concave grind (an Urasuki) on the inside. This combination of grinds, done well as is the case here, are extraordinarily challenging. The bowie-style blade has been expertly configured for Wing Chun-style use.
Instead of a Tomb-Warrior D-Guard and half handles, however, these swords use an Orca D Guard with full handles. The butt of the Orca D Guard is pointy (a nice extra when attacking with a punch or hammerfist). The handles are ergonomically shaped to fit the inside of a closed fist, have two finger indents for added control, and are tilted slightly downward for improved power. The entire design flows, creating an especially harmonious look.
The scales are black micarta with tan and black liners. Micarta is a comfortable and more stable material than wood. It is used in tactical bladed weaponry intended for serious field use. Eight small pins (an over-kill feature used by Modell Design LLC for its combat knives), plus two decorative mosaic pins, as well as the usual glue, help fix them to the full tang.
This is one of the two original pairs of this series done as a one-off at the direction of designer Jeffrey Modell of Modell Design LLC. There is no guarantee we will receive more.
