Broadwell Butterfly Swords - Damascus

Modell Design LLC, Forgemaster K. Ali, and famous U.S. custom knife maker David Broadwell did a joint project to create these unique Butterfly Swords. Modell Design conceived the project and provided David Broadwell with information on, and samples of, BJD. David Broadwell designed them and Forgemaster K. Ali, the foremost international maker of high-end Butterfly Swords, was responsible for construction of the knives. The original project was for five pair with sheaths made by David’s wife, Anita. David later authorized an additional three pair. This is one of those. It includes a signed certificate of authenticity from David Broadwell. The BJD have his personally applied Broadwell Design logo and that of Forgemaster K. Ali. The sheaths, though, were made overseas.

This particular design is extraordinarily difficult to make and expensive prototyping was required before reaching this final design. These pieces of functional art are combat-ready weapons worthy of a master.

Some noteworthy design specs include:
- Rope-style file work under the quillon - An ergonomic sub-hilt handle design; as f
ar as we know David’s design is the first ever sub-hilt BJD!
- A graceful Persian blade point with flowing lines
- The tip, similar to that of a Nessmuk (in profile but not grind) is the same style as the Vietnam-era Scout Recon MACV Study Group design. It is a tip style that is in vogue with a number of the top international knife makers. Jeff believes the design arose as Special Forces troops broke off the fine clip point on bowie knives... or simply did a frequent, sloppy job sharpening said knives. The result is a stronger, but less acute, tip of great visual interest.

Every knife is hand-made of professionally tempered weapon's grade steel. The photos are of the actual pair.
