Yim Wing Chun was well known as a master of the plum flower posts. To this day certain lineages still practice chi sao and other drills on these posts.  The typically range from 2 inches in diameter to 7 inches or so (the better you get the smaller the post).  The posts should be spaced according to your height (for proper footwork). The general spacing is that each post's center is 2 feet from each neighboring post's center.
