Some quick info on custom ordering older models: Depending on the model and your customizations, a single pair of swords will start in the $600-$800 price range to your door with FREE shipping and sheath. Exotic models are usually more due to the extra labor involved. You will have the ability to customize your pair some (steels, grinds, handles, mixing D-guards and blades, etc.) Both the raw materials and the quality of artistry have increased since the original pairs. When the forge makes a single pair of blades, it is more expensive than when they make 5-10 pairs and have some economy of size.
In our experience, it will take close to 5 months before you get your swords - if there are no COVID related delays. Shipping will be direct to your door from the forge via DHL. You may have to pay VAT/Customs fees in your country for import.
We apologize for the low quantity of swords currently available. COVID setback production and the forge is currently working very hard to make more swords without sacrificing quality. Instead of waiting to see if something comes back in stock we HIGHLY recommend you simply email us and ask us to make whatever model you desire. Training swords will be restocked. Most weapons-grade swords will not - we tend to make different versions each year. Thanks for your patience! We want to get you the best quality weapons possible at the cheapest prices.
The swords represent the highest level of learning in Wing Chun Kung Fu and are one of the last things learned. As with everything in Wing Chun, the swords are supposed to be custom-made to fit the individual user and his/her style of fighting. The swords you use will not always be the same as your teacher or lineage but might be similar in function.
Each part of the sword has a purpose and how that part is made/designed greatly affects the use. The blade length (typically same as your forearm length), the blade shape (chopping, stabbing, hybrids of both), the grind/edge, the handles, the quillon (stopping, flipping, trapping, hybrids), the knuckle bow shape, etc are all very important considerations. This is one reason we routinely make/stock over 100 different models at any one time. But this also means that we cannot make very many of each model (1-5 of each is normally made), so if you see a sword that you like and fits your style, you should grab it while you can!
